— Narration, Building MindChamber

MindChamber is a character created by American animator Jose Ortiz, known online as MindChamber. Initially serving as his mascot, MindChamber would later become the protagonist of the MindChamber series.

MindChamber is a robot created by Nikola Tesla to end global conflict. After a series of lab accidents, he was deactivated and hidden by Tesla’s followers. Reactivated in 1986, MindChamber sets out to uncover the truth behind his past, drawing the attention of the Russian military. He finds an ally in Joey, an autistic child with an intuitive understanding of machines.

Background[]

MindChamber made his debut in the 2003 release Jose Ortiz’s website as “Intra-Face,”[3] an animated interface that served as the site’s navigator. When activated, Intra-Face's face would appear on screen, looking around before revealing a stylized collection of links to various sections of Ortiz’s work.

MindChamber would appear around Ortiz's website and other works, serving as the mascot. He was first featured in the production logo 2003 flash game Alien-Snatchattack, a collaboration between Ortiz and Newgrounds user CarrotClock. The logo featured both mascots interacting, representing each creator.[4] Following this, MindChamber would be prominately featured as the mascot of Ortiz's website, and would be featured on Ortiz's production logo on flash games and animations.

MindChamber is set to be the protagonist of the MindChamber series. The series has been developed in multiple formats over time, including an animated short, a video game[5] and a comic appearance. Of these, only the comic, featured in the One Shot anthology, has been officially released.[6] MindChamber is an autonomous robot created in the late 1800s by Nikola Tesla. He was attempting to create the machine to end all wars. During the installation of MindChamber’s primary weapon system, a massive explosion occurred in Tesla’s Manhattan lab. To cover up the incident, Tesla concealed the event and hid the robot from the public. Following Tesla’s death, MindChamber was secretly relocated by a group of his loyal followers, keeping him hidden for decades. In 1986, an unknown event triggered the robot’s reactivation. With no understanding of the time that had passed, MindChamber returned to New York in search of his creator and to uncover what had happened during his years in stasis. To avoid detection, he operated only at night. During his search, he discovered a postcard of Niagara Falls. The image triggers a series of stored visual memories, leading him to believe that the location holds clues to uncover what had happened during his years in stasis. While traveling in the ruins of the South Bronx, MindChamber encounters Joey, an autistic boy with a natural talent for mechanics.[7][8] The two form a bond, with Joey using his talents to help MindChamber on their journey. During MindChamber's journey, he is being sought out by the Russian military. Under strict orders to capture the robot with minimal damage, they began a covert operation to track and apprehend him.[9][10]

MC:Forums Christmas Collab[]

MindChamber makes a minor appearance in MC:Forums Christmas Colab. In the first section animated by Ortiz, he is shown getting hit in the head with a snowball. In response, he scoops up a large pile of snow and hurls it forward. He also appears in the production logo of the animation.

Warriors of the Portal[]

MindChamber appears as a central character in the animated short Warriors of the Portal. In the animation, he, along with several other Newgrounds characters, awakens in a mysterious maze. A disembodied voice informs them that only one will be allowed to leave alive. The voice explains that the doors ahead will soon open, and the combatants are given no choice but to fight each other to the death.

As the battle begins, MindChamber engages in brutal combat. He attacks Red Knight, grabbing his head and slamming it into a wall before violently crushing his skull. Later, he is ambushed by Tankman and Steve, who blast him with P-Bot’s arm cannon. Though the attack appears devastating, MindChamber survives. The maze walls then shift, revealing a large coliseum. MindChamber steps inside, where he is confronted by his next opponent, Gigantor. Gigantor distracts him and lands a sucker punch, but MindChamber quickly retaliates with a headbutt and a series of powerful attacks, including slamming Gigantor to the ground and hurling him across the coliseum. Gigantor recovers quickly, grabbing MindChamber and smashing his head into the wall multiple times before tossing him aside. MindChamber gets back up but is met with another punch to the face. After a tense moment, MindChamber gestures Gigantor his middle finger, prompting an enraged Gigantor to rip open his chest cavity. Severely wounded, MindChamber tries to crawl away, dodging a blow from Gigantor's spear. Regaining momentum, he tackles Gigantor, stabs his hand with the spear, and unleashes a flurry of punches. As the two grapple, MindChamber’s body begins to glow with electrical energy.

At this point, the animation branches into one of two alternate endings: In the first ending, MindChamber releases a powerful energy blast from his palm, killing Gigantor and leaving his body charred and motionless. As Gigantor’s corpse drops, MindChamber turns toward the sound of clapping, where it is revealed that it is coming from Pico. He thanks MindChamber for eliminating the others, declaring there’s no one left to stop him from becoming King of the Portal. Enraged, MindChamber leaps toward Pico as Pico draws his gun. In the second ending, Gigantor gains the upper hand, fatally stabbing MindChamber through the head with the spear. As MindChamber’s body is thrown aside, Pico appears just as he does in the alternate ending. This time, it is Gigantor who becomes enraged and charges toward him.
